10:19 pm - Hey Baltimore People!
I need to know about some good historical places to visit in Baltimore. My company is going to a trade show in Baltimore and one of our Sales reps is bringing her husband. He is a bit of a history buff and would like to know of places to visit.

Can anyone help?

Depends on what they like. Edgar Allen Poe's house is here for one. If he's a military buff, we have Gettysburg, Antietam, Fort McHenry, Fredericksburg--name an important American Revolution, Battle of 1812, or Civil War battlefield and we're probably close to it. We have lots of museums; the National Aquarium, for one. And let's not forget the Orioles and (depending on when they're here) the Ravens.

Plus Philadelphia's only about 90 minutes away, Washington, D.C. is less than an hour (depending on traffic), NYC's about a three-hour trip.

Walk the inner harbor at least one night ... great views and it calms the soul. :) I went to school in the area for about 1 year :)

Oh that's for sure. And come join me in Little Italy for some great food, even if it's a little pricey.

Just to clarify for everyone -- they will be in the Inner Harbor area, and may or may not have a car. I've already recommended Gettysburg but am not sure if that's going to be possible. So best places would be walking distance of the Inner Harbor or places that are easily accessible for day trips via public transportation. She is going to be at the convention center all day while he wanders around town. THANKS!!!

If they're going to be in the Inner Harbor, that's right where I live. Again, if they want to see NYC, they can take the MARC train there. Same with DC. Or they could always do the touristy thing and take the water taxi to Fort McHenry.

And there are lots of art shows and that sort of thing downtown, it all depends on when they'll be here.

If they like tv shows, down in the Fells Point district is where they taped Homicide: Life on the Streets and "The Wire" is currently filmed here.

Thank you, I will tell them! They'll be there on a weekend so the MARC doesn't run, from what I could tell, although they might get there early Friday or late Thursday (coming in from CA). He will definitely want to see Fort McHenry! Touristy historical things are good:)

If you're going to be on the Inner Harbor, DEFINITELY get tickets to the Aquarium. I have SO many pictures that I took a few years ago when a bunch of us went down. Everything along the Inner Harbor is walkable (or take the little ferries to places like Falls Church, etc.)

Does this mean we can FINALLY have coffee?

Um... hmm. Federal Hill (by Inner Harbor), Fort McHenry (accessible by bus line #1 from the Harbor/South Baltimore area), The Poe House, and be sure to take the harbor ferry!

Afraid no coffee. I won't be going. I never get to go to these trade shows. It will be the husband of one of the sales reps that needs the historical touristy things to go to.
