02:21 am - Brideog
Well, just got back from Columbus, OH, where we took the Brideog to various and sundry people in Three Cranes Grove. I had a good time and it was great seeing everyone.

The ritual was lovely and has inspired me to do as well for our Imbolc next Saturday. We discussed the ritual on the way home and Rob kept saying that we need to come up with some impressive invocations to Brid. It was a very moving and well planned ritual. I thought it nice that Rob got to do his rendition of "Punk Rock Brid."

There was just one thing that bothered me about the ritual. I thought it odd that after inviting the Nature Spirits to join the rite, their offering was chucked outside of the ritual space. Shouldn't the Nature Spirits' offering have stayed indoors with all the other offerings? At least for the duration of the ritual? I've seen similar things in other Groves' rituals and I think this is a bit of a pet peeve of mine. If you are inviting a Kindred to join your rite, why throw the offerings away from the ritual space? I don't get it. Wouldn't that make Them leave in order to get their offerings?

But I digress. A good omen was had, which is the important thing. I really enjoyed seeing my friends from Three Cranes again and hanging out with them. I got to use my Rún Valdr on people, which is always nice and I made sure to charge Nick's Valknut. I felt that was important to do. Now he will be closer to Odin's presence.

Well, time for bed. It has been a good day.

I know! I realized that this morning, and felt really bad. I think that I got into that "Crap, I have a ritual to do" mode and just missed it. I'm really, really sorry that I forgot to call.

Rob got to do his rendition of "Punk Rock Brid."

Lyrics!!!!!! That's got to be the funniest thing I've heard today, outside of Anna's pants having standards.

Ask and ye shall receive:

Punk Rock Bríd

by Rob Henderson (Imbolc 99)
(based on "Punk Rock Girl" by the Dead Milkmen)

At one An Bruane we lit a sacred fire
We made a dolly and we tied her up with wire

Punk Rock Bríd, goddess of the well
Punk Rock Bríd, you ring our bell
Let's build community
Come bless our homes, Punk Rock Bríd

We put her in a white dress
and put wheat stalks in her head
And then we lay her in her little dolly bed

Punk Rock Bríd, you're our goddess
Punk Rock Bríd, you're the hottest
You're the one that we beseech
Come bless our homes, Punk Rock Bríd

We started off in Grosse Pointe Woods
We went all the way to Lansing
We barged in through the doors
And we started slam dancing
Then we jumped up on the table and shouted anarchy
And then Mark Gabriel got out his accordion
He was playing "Drunken Sailor"
So we started wailin'
"Ear-li in the mornin'"

We all went out to Jan's barn to bless the mules
Her husband took one look at us and thought that we were fools

Punk Rock Bríd, give us a cross
Punk Rock Bríd, that's made of dental floss
For places we can't reach
Yeah, you're for us, Punk Rock Bríd

We were driving on the freeway
And playing with our puppets
The monkey was steering but he was a bad driver
He didn't know right from left
And we went the wrong way
We shouted at the monkey 'cause his steering was so funky

We went to Fire Watch to bless the Bratach Bríd
The dolly held it to her nose and she let out a sneeze

Punk Rock Bríd, goddess of the fire
Punk Rock Bríd, you make us perspire
Your talents are so great
Come bless our homes
And we'll all stay up too late
Come bless our homes
We'll travel round the state
Come bless our homes, Punk Rock Bríd

I actually thought about that NS offering, too. Usually, we spread it around the space, but as we were indoors, we couldn't. We didn't really talk about it, so it was a "use your discretion" sort of scattering, and it ended up outside. I might have done the same thing, if I'd given it, and not thought about it until afterwards.

Occasionally, that happens with the other offerings, too. Ancestors offerings sometimes get thrown outside the space, etc. Really, I think it's mostly my fault for not really talking about the disposition of sacrifices.

I was off last night, not at the top of my (ritual) game. I have things to work on.

Glad you enjoyed it, though, and it was very good to see you all :)

Really besides the Nature Spirits' offering, it was a very nice and moving ritual. You didn't seem off at all.
